Volunteer Jobs

Welcome to all of our fabulous Fox Point Fintastics Families!!

Parents should choose their jobs on the 'Job Sign Up' tab. Please read the information below about each job so that you will know what jobs are the best fit for you.

Most of the job trainings can be completed online. Information about training will be released as soon as it is available.

TRAINED JOBS

REFEREE (Home meets) – Responsible to insure competition racing conditions and rules are observed. Referee has full authority over all officials at the meet. Referee signals the starter before each heat when the pool is clear and ready for the next heat. Referee signs DQ slips and has final decision on any point where opinions differ. Must attend RSL sponsored clinic every year and must have at least one-year stroke and turn experience.

ADMIN REFEREE (Away meets) – Assists referee. Must have at least one year stroke and turn experience and be trained as a referee

STARTER (Home meets) – Conducts meet in timely manner. Assures fair starts of events. Starter ensures that the starting device is placed appropriate and timers have unobstructed view. Responsible to determine any false starts. Must attend RSL sponsored training every year.

HEAD TIMER (Home meets) – Instructs and manages timers in responsibilities. Provides “back up” timing in case of timer error. Must attend RSL sponsored training every year.

STROKE AND TURN JUDGE (Home and Away meets) – Observes swimmers to insure all applicable rules pertaining to the stroke are observed. Follow process for disqualification slip if violation is observed. Must attend RSL sponsored training every year. 

DATA COORDINATOR (Home and Away meets) – Responsible for running Meet Manager. Enters swimmers times into program and manages reports and ribbon labels. Must attend RSL sponsored training every year.

CLERK OF COURSE (Home and Away meets) – Responsible for management of staging area for swimmers to insure all competitors are present and to deliver younger swimmers to their lanes. Must attend an RSL sponsored training every year.

SAFETY MARSHALL (Home meets)- Walks the perimeter of the deck and checks bathrooms to ensure that swimmers and spectators are obeying pool rules. Supplies water to workers. Must complete Safesport Training. 

UNTRAINED JOBS

RUNNERS (Home meets only) – Collect cards from timers at the end of each event and deliver to the scoring area. Admin Runners report to the referee. Clerk of Course Runners report and assist the COC volunteers.

AWARDS CLERK (Home and Away meets) – Put place ribbons together for swimmers that place in an event. This job covers the 1st and 2nd half of the meet but work is sporadic based on how quickly results are computed. You can report in around event 18 and need to stay until the final awards are done at the end of the meet.

HEAT WINNER RIBBONS (Home meets) – Gives out heat winner ribbons to each swimmer who finishes first in his/her heat.

TIMERS (Home and Away meets) – Uses a stopwatch to time swimmers. There are three timers assigned to each swim lane. One person of out of these three will be responsible to write down times and deliver cards to the runners.

ANNOUNCER (Home meets) – Overhead announcements for swimmers to report, concessions, or meet updates.

CONCESSIONS (Home meets)- Will help to serve food and take payment. We will also have a candy table.

Parents will be required to volunteer for a total of 6 (untrained) jobs and 5 (trained) jobs throughout the season. Each job is one-half of a swim meet. We request that one parent per swimmer attends the training for a trained position. Parents who do not fulfill their volunteer obligations may lead to swimmer suspension and a fine. 

What to do the day of the meet….. Our Meet Coordinator will be at the entrance to the pool area one-half hour prior to the start of a meet, home or away, for you to check in and receive your name/assignment badge. Any additional instructions will be given at that time. If you are arriving after the start of the meet and still need to check in, please find the Meet Coordinator immediately upon arriving at the pool.
